Government apprenticeship reforms will come into place from April 2017 onwards. From this date the government will no longer fully fund apprenticeship training for employers, the employers will now have to pay a 10% contribution to the training costs.

From April 2017 onwards employers:

  • Must pay a 10% contribution to the training of your apprentices
  • Can use apprenticeship training for newly recruited apprentices and/or to up skill existing staff as apprentices
  • Can only use government recognised providers to deliver apprenticeship training
  • Will receive a £1,000 incentive for employing a 16 to 18 year apprentice
